World Wildlife Fund (WWF), in partnership with the US Agency for International Development Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), has developed the Natural and Nature-Based Flood Management: A Green Guide (Flood Green Guide or FGG) to support communities in using natural and nature-based methods for flood risk management.
The Flood Green Guide was drafted by a team of subject matter experts including consultations with local communities around the world and will be supported by a training program currently in development. We will officially launch the FGG in April and will be releasing new and additional flood management related resources and case studies as well.
The FGG supports the concept that flood risk management measures should be holistic, locally specific, integrated and balanced across multiple sectors. Designed for those responsible for flood risk management, including municipal governments, community groups, and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), the FGG offers guidance on managing and minimizing flood risk while maximizing social, environmental, and economic co-benefits of management approaches.
