On September 2, 2013 WWF and the American Red Cross (ARC) received the Green Star Award from the United Nations and Green Cross International, in recognition of the Green Recovery and Reconstruction: Training Toolkit for Humanitarian Aid. The prize was one of four Green Star awards presented during a ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland.
The prize was awarded in the category of mainstreaming in recognition of the five-year partnership that combined the humanitarian expertise of the American Red Cross with the environmental expertise of WWF, which worked to ensure a long-lasting recovery by restoring livelihoods, protecting natural resources, and reducing the risk of communities against future disasters.
